Severe Weather and Heavy Rainfall – March 30, 2025

Severe Weather Spreading from the Mississippi Valley to the East Coast

A powerful storm system is set to bring severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and possible tornadoes across large portions of the U.S. from Sunday into Monday. The Mississippi, Ohio, and Tennessee Valleys will face an Enhanced Risk of severe weather, including large hail, damaging winds, and strong tornadoes. Flash flooding is also a concern as heavy rain moves eastward, impacting the Mid-Atlantic and Gulf Coast regions on Monday.

Ice Storm Continues for the Upper Midwest and Northeast

Freezing rain and heavy snowfall will persist across the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and Northern New England, with ice accumulations of up to 0.5 inches expected in some areas. Travel conditions will remain hazardous due to ice-covered roads and downed power lines. Snowfall totals could reach 4-6 inches, particularly around Lake Superior and northern Maine.

West Coast Braces for Stormy Conditions

An approaching Pacific system will bring rain, thunderstorms, and heavy mountain snow to the West Coast starting Sunday. Central California to the Pacific Northwest will experience significant precipitation, with the Sierra Nevada expected to receive up to 5 feet of snow in higher elevations. Strong winds up to 55 mph will accompany this system.

Critical Fire Weather in the Southern High Plains

The Southern High Plains, including central and southern New Mexico and West Texas, remain under Critical Fire Weather conditions due to warm temperatures, dry air, and gusty winds. The risk of wildfires will persist into next week, prompting advisories for heightened fire awareness.
