Overview of Current Weather Patterns
A low-pressure system developing over the Eastern U.S. is expected to impact weather conditions with severe weather, mixed precipitation, and notable temperature differences across the regions.
Eastern U.S. and Mid-Atlantic:
-
Severe Weather: Elevated risk in the Lower Ohio Valley and Mid/Deep South on Thursday, with isolated severe threats along the southern Eastern Seaboard on Friday. Expect strong to severe thunderstorms producing damaging winds and large hail.
-
Precipitation: Mixed rain/wet snow from the Great Lakes to interior New England through Friday morning, followed by widespread cold soaking rain in the Mid-Atlantic through early Saturday, with light snow possible in northern areas.
Forecast Dynamics:
The low pressure system will progressively strengthen as it moves southeastward, first bringing mixed precipitation followed by an increase in severe weather potential ahead of the cold front. Later, as the storm pivots out over the Atlantic, conditions are expected to improve.
